The reports suggest that Samsung Electronics originally planned to order panels from Samsung Display but, considering the overall screen quality and display performance, ultimately switched to Sony Corporation.

Sony will supply OLEDoS screens for Samsung's XR headsets using WOLED packaging, with an internal screen size of 1.3 inches.

From the report, it is also learned that Apple placed an additional OLEDoS order with Sony for the Vision Pro headset at the end of last year, and it is estimated that the shipment volume of Apple's headset will increase.

Omdia initially predicted the shipment volume of the product to be around 300,000 units last year, but it has now been revised to over 500,000 units.

According to previous reports, during the Galaxy S23 launch event, Samsung revealed that it is collaborating with Google and Qualcomm to develop XR products.

In mid-February, it was reported that Samsung has established an independent team called the "Immersive Team" to develop its first XR headset. It is understood that this team has grown to about 100 people. The company is further expanding the team size to accelerate the development speed of the XR headset.

At the end of February, it was reported that Samsung has started mass production of its XR headset, with plans to launch it for sale by the end of 2024. The estimated price is $2000.

It is reported that Samsung has readjusted the hardware specifications of its XR headset, focusing on enhancing hardware performance. Originally, Samsung planned to equip the headset with a single-eye screen with a pixel density of 2000 ppi, and the chipset would have been the older and less powerful Exynos 2200. However, the revised specifications will now include the recently released Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset from Qualcomm, paired with screens featuring a refresh rate of 90Hz at 4.3K resolution and 120Hz at 3.7K resolution.

The original article was first published on the WeChat official account (Aibang VR Industry News):Samsung will procure Sony OLEDoS display screens for its first XR head-mounted display.
