Qualcomm launched the XR2+ Gen 2 chip reference design at CES 2024, but no VR headset manufacturer has yet actually shipped equipment equipped with related chips. Qualcomm is currently testing Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 3 and XR2+ Gen 3 chip data It is said to be a "variant" of the XR2+ Gen 2 chip.
Source Lynch revealed that considering the development cycle, the related chips are "almost the same" as XR2+ Gen 2 in terms of functionality and bandwidth.But using the Oryon CPU (instead of Arm Cortex) in the Snapdragon X Elite, the GPU is also said to be "more energy efficient"。
For reference, VR giant Meta currently uses the XR2+ Gen 1 chip in the Quest Pro head display and the XR2 Gen 2 chip in the Quest 3. It is expected that the company will use Snapdragon XR2 in the Quest Pro 2 or Quest 4 head display. Gen 3 series chips, but we may have to wait for quite a while.
