At CES 2024 in January, Sony unveiled an MR all-in-one headset (not officially named yet) based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2. The headset promises to offer a plethora of enterprise-friendly features, including a "4K" OLED micro-display, see-through video, a flip-up design, and a pair of unique MR controllers.
Reportedly, Sony is set to launch this device in "later 2024," including a pointer-style controller operated with the index finger and a small ring-shaped device controlled with the thumb.
The ring device allows you to select items and secure them firmly to your hand, while the "pointer-style controller" achieves what Sony describes as "stable and accurate pointing in virtual space, with efficient and precise operations facilitated by optimized shape and button layout."
This pointer-style controller is essentially a 3D touch pen, and Sony aims to attract creators to build and view 3D objects within the headset itself in a natural and precise manner. It serves as a streamlined version of the VR Pen introduced by Wacom in 2020.
