March 12th News: Today, Apple announced the expansion of its application research laboratory in China, including enhancing the capabilities of the Shanghai research center to support the reliability, quality, and material analysis of all product lines. Later this year, Apple will open an application research laboratory in Shenzhen, deepening cooperation with local suppliers.
Apple stated that the new Shenzhen laboratory will enhance testing and research capabilities for products such as iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro. Apple's Vice President and Managing Director for Greater China, Ge Yue, mentioned, "This investment will further deepen our commitment and better support our delivery of world-class products to users."
Apple has invested over 1 billion RMB in its application research laboratory and stated that this investment will continue to grow. The laboratory assists engineering and design teams in testing prototypes, making improvements, and closely collaborating with suppliers to help them enhance efficiency and save time.
Apple stated that new technologies such as the titanium used in the iPhone 15 Pro, Face ID, and products like Apple Vision Pro benefit from simulations conducted in the application research laboratory. The laboratory's years of analysis work contribute to Apple expanding the use of recycled materials and achieving carbon neutrality throughout its supply chain and products by 2030.
Over the past five years, Apple has doubled the size of its research and development teams in China, with research centers in Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou, and Shenzhen. These centers have played a crucial role in the development of features such as portrait lighting effects and night mode.
