After a hiatus of 3 years, Meta launched the successor to the Quest 2 headset in the fourth quarter of 2023. Leveraging holiday promotions and price reductions, Quest 2 became the most attractive VR product of the quarter, contributing to better performance for Meta and the entire XR market.
Due to the introduction of PSVR 2, the proportion of standalone VR in the total XR market shipments decreased from 94% in the fourth quarter of 2022 to 79% in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Meta's Quest 3 and Quest 2 models continue to dominate the XR headset market. However, due to the emergence of Sony's PSVR 2, the market share for this quarter has declined compared to the fourth quarter of 2022.
