On March 19th, Raontech, a South Korean company, announced that AR optical technology company Avegant has chosen its LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) panels for use in Avegant smart glasses.
According to previous reports, Avegant is an augmented reality (AR) optical technology company that collaborates with companies like Qualcomm, Applied Materials, etc., to develop lightweight AI smart glasses. At the 2024 SPIE Optics Exhibition held last month, optical modules featuring Raontech's LCoS panels were showcased.
The Avegant AI smart glasses equipped with Raontech's LCoS panel.
LCoS panels assemble liquid crystal display (LCD) components on silicon wafers. Similar to LCD displays, they utilize external light sources to achieve screen display.
A related individual from Raontech explained, "Compared to organic light-emitting diodes (OLED) and micro light-emitting diodes (LED), LCoS may have lower contrast, but Avegant has overcome this drawback by enhancing the contrast by tenfold and reducing power consumption by up to 90%."
It is reported that Avegant plans to release its smart glasses within this year.
