Topaz5D combines small 2.5 µm global shutter pixels with post-processing diffractive layers to create angle-sensitive pixels. This allows for the generation of 3D angle signal raw data, which is then processed by the 5D version SDK. Topaz5D is a 3D variant of Teledyne e2v's popular image sensor Topaz 2M, widely used in the logistics/retail market and smart factories.
Topaz5D features a resolution of two million pixels (1920 x 1080) and is available in both monochrome and color versions. Its compact dimensions (7.65 mm x 4.45 mm) allow for easy integration into space-constrained optical engines or modules, consuming only 200 mW of power at full frame rate. It can generate 3D depth maps and display contrast details of any type of object, including black or highly reflective objects, or objects seen through glass plates or transparent organic materials (such as acrylic or plastic bottles).
Unlike other 3D vision technologies that rely on scene lighting, Topaz5D can be used in a wide variety of operating conditions, including indoor lighting or direct sunlight. Compared to stereoscopic vision solutions, it only requires a single sensor plus a lens, eliminating the need for complex dual-lens system calibration and the risk of optical occlusion. Additionally, Topaz5D outpaces other 3D vision technologies in terms of cost-effectiveness.
Teledyne e2v's Senior Marketing Manager Laurent Appercel expressed “Topaz5D possesses unique capabilities, delivering clear full HD 2D images and detailed 3D depth maps in real-time with high frame rates and no latency. The 5D processing SDK is integrated and ready on platforms from multiple SoC suppliers. All these unparalleled advantages stem from a single sensor, which can be deployed at lower costs and with minimal power consumption under conditions of no illumination and simplified hardware and software.”
Currently, this full HD CMOS image sensor, Topaz5D, is available upon request, providing documentation, samples, and kits for evaluation or development purposes.
