According to news on May 12, the SteamVR 2.5 update is now available, which includes optimization of the Steam Link experience for Quest users.
Valve launched the Steam Link application for Meta Quest in November 2023. This application allows users to easily connect Quest headsets to SteamVR wirelessly to play PC VR games or PC flat game content, essentially bypassing Meta Own Air Link function.
In addition to a series of bug fixes and user experience optimizations for SteamVR, this update will also see Quest users notice a more stable connection when using Steam Link.
IT House noticed that Valve mentioned in the update log that optimizations for Steam Link include:
-
Improved prediction function and improved lateral tracking stability
-
Fixed an initialization issue that caused connection failure (requires both client and server to be updated at the same time)
-
Fixed a persistent connection failure issue caused when the headset enters standby and returns
-
Fixed a deadlock problem that occurred when inserting or removing USB devices on the host side
-
Fixed two client crash issues
-
Fixed video encoder initialization issue on some AMD integrated graphics cards
