On June 2, Meta seemed to have accidentally leaked the name of its next virtual reality headset: Quest 3S. UploadVR discovered that the Quest 3S is listed as one of the supported devices in the Quest App Store.
On the store page for upcoming fitness app Alo Moves XR, the Quest 3S is listed alongside the Quest 3, Quest Pro and Quest 2. Other upcoming games, such as Miracle Pool and Horse Racing Star VR Edition, also include support for Quest 3S. but,Meta seems to have cleaned up the relevant information, the Quest 3S name has now disappeared from the Quest store.
The Quest 3S is expected to be a more affordable version of the Quest 3 headset due to be released in October 2023, but details about the new device are currently scant. IT House noticed that in March this year, a leaked image shared by @ZGFTECH showed a cheap Quest 3 that may have eliminated the see-through camera. However, more recent leaks seem to contradict this, claiming it will feature two 4MP RGB see-through cameras.
Last year The Verge reported on an internal presentation from Meta VR VP Mark Rabkin that mentioned a cheaper Quest headset on the company's product roadmap. During his presentation, Rabkin mentioned a more “accessible” headset codenamed Ventura. At the time, Rabkin said the goal was to deliver "the most powerful features at the most attractive price point" in the consumer VR market.
